About the Therapist Jeffrey Flocker has been performing rehab services for dogs since March, 2000. He has a Masters degree in Physical Therapy and an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and has graduated from the University of Tennessee’s Small Animal Rehab Certification course. He is a certified CCRP. He has also completed the coursework offered by the Canine Rehab Institute in Florida and is in the process of completing it (CCRT). Canine Rehab Institute has also approved Jeffrey as a clinical instructor for their internship program. Jeffrey’s upbringing lead him to his profession as a physical therapist. As a teen he studied and instructed martial arts thereby learning a great deal about healing traumatic injuries. He took college courses in architectural engineering so he has the ability to create many different types of braces and other apparatus for disabled dogs. He was also a competitive cyclist and triathlete therefore becoming proficient in implementing exercise programs. All these skills followed him when he earned his undergraduate degree in exercise science and his Masters in Physical Therapy.
While still practicing PT on humans, Jeffrey’s own Mastiff had to undergo surgery for a torn cruciate. Following surgery, Jeffrey applied what he knew from his PT training to do rehab on her and another career was born!
Jeffrey has been a certified massage therapist since 1989 with extensive hands on experience working with humans and dogs. He has attended a number of specialty courses in canine soft tissue mobilization including personal and class instruction in the use of TTouch techniques for companion animals. He also utilizes myofascial release techniques learned while studying with John Barnes, PT.
Jeffrey has experience in rehabilitating many canine conditions including:
Over the past 16 years, while providing support for his wife at dog shows, Jeffrey has performed an extensive personal study of canine gait analysis. This is a skill that enables him to better determine your dogs rehab requirements.
In 2008, Jeffrey was the presenter on Aquatic Rehab for small animals at the 5th International Symposium on Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy in Veterinary Medicine. He is also co-authoring a chapter on Aquatic Rehabilitation in the next edition of the Canine Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy book.
